Book Star Rating Guide used to determine how I feel about a book.

Book ratings. You know what you think about the book but converting that to an actual star rating can be so difficult. So I wanted to talk through how I decide my rating.

I consider myself a “mood reader”. I typically read mysteries or thrillers. I also really enjoy books where I learn or even a memoir. I don’t think there is a genre I dislike. Recently, I have been more drawn to romance reads

Once I read a few books with heavy content or lots of thrillers, I need a light romance. Typically that romance read is a five star read. I like to think I am critical enough to give a true star rating, but I also feel like I do a good job of reading what I need when I need it.

I created the above star rating system to help guide me to and to explain how I feel about a read.

Most of my reads are 4- and 5- star ratings. I typically have a few 3-star ratings and rarely a 1-or 2- star review.

I always find a redeeming quality about a book. I can find something I enjoyed, which makes it difficult for me to rate below three stars.
